Moanda, Kongo Central – A whale measuring approximately 10 metres in length was found stranded on the evening of Wednesday, 1 July, along the Moanda–Banana coastal road, near Hotel Gloria in Kongo Central Province.

According to initial observations from the scene, the cetacean was discovered in a weakened condition and showed several visible injuries on its body. The exact circumstances behind the stranding remain unknown and are still under early investigation.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the incident. Experts say several possibilities could be considered, including vessel collision, illness, disorientation, fishing-related injuries, or environmental stressors. However, only a detailed scientific examination will determine the exact cause.

Whale strandings are relatively rare along the Congolese coastline and often attract the attention of marine wildlife specialists. Experts note that studying such cases can provide valuable insights into ocean health and the threats facing marine mammals in the region.
