The Congo Basin Conservation Society, in partnership with ISDR-Kindu, has officially launched a call for applications for scholarships in agroecology targeting students and researchers in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to the announcement published on May 25, 2026, the initiative aims to strengthen scientific research and sustainable environmental management in the Congo Basin, one of the world’s largest tropical forest ecosystems.
The program comes at a time when the forests of eastern DRC continue to face growing threats from deforestation, shifting agriculture, mining activities and insecurity, particularly in the Kivu region.
The organizers say agroecology offers a sustainable response by promoting biodiversity conservation, climate resilience and food sovereignty for local communities.
The scholarship program is part of a broader project implemented in Maniema Province by CBCS Network in collaboration with ISDR-Kindu and other local stakeholders.
The project focuses on supporting agroecological transition, sustainable forest management and participatory research on traditional and wild food species.
As a research and higher education institution, ISDR-Kindu will oversee the scientific component of the initiative, including the development of research protocols and the promotion of responsible harvesting methods for forest resources.
The institution also aims to enhance local market analysis and promote environmentally sustainable economic models.Applicants are required to submit academic transcripts, a detailed CV, copies of identification documents, recommendation letters from two ISDR-Kindu lecturers and a three-to-four-page research concept note outlining the proposed study topic and scientific relevance.
Completed applications must be submitted physically to the office of the Director General of ISDR-Kindu no later than June 1, 2026, at 3:30 PM. Electronic copies should also be sent via email to the addresses indicated in the official call.
The scholarship initiative is expected to contribute to the emergence of a new generation of researchers committed to sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation and community-based environmental governance in the Congo Basin.
